Description This position will focus on developing high availability, mission critical messaging software for Union Pacific\u0092s Positive Train Control (PTC) system using cutting edge technology, C\/C and Linux.Union Pacific Railroad is currently hiring C developer to work on the PTC Messaging Systems. The Highly Available messaging system is mission critical to UP\u0092s transportation network, operations and safety. C developers are in the technical career path. The technical career path is for employees interested in an individual contributor role, who wants to work with other team members to ensure a project's success. The main elements of the technical path include: 1) No direct reports, 2) Heavy technical skills, 3) Heavy teamwork, 4) Heavy client\/customer contact, 5) Heavy daily planning and execution, 6) Creativity. The position requires highly motivated, creative individuals with strong technical skills who are able to work in a team to deliver complex solutions within limited time frames. Internal Only Comments Accountabilities Design, develop, implement, and support applications to enable more efficient decision making, process automation, and\/or operational effectiveness. Work closely with customer departments to respond to questions concerning functionality of existing or proposed systems. This requires a high degree of customer responsiveness while following project management guidelines in reporting time and effort. Work with other project members to assist in meeting project goals. Provide assistance to team members in problem solving to correct system errors. Provide assistance to team members in meeting target dates and in understanding applications of new technologies. Assist the project leader in developing and reporting project schedules to meet the department and customer requirements. Qualifications Required A Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field. Strong applicable experience (a minimum of 6 years C development experience) may be taken into account in lieu of a degree. 3 year(s) experience in Information Technology Candidates must take and qualify on an online IT assessment in order to receive further consideration for the position. to view sample items for the IT Assessment. Preferred 3 year(s) experience in Information Technology developing C\/C applications with real time programming constructs and inter-process communication functionality.
