Senior Database Administrator (MySQL / MS SQL)

Because of recent growth our client is excited about bringing on a seasoned Database Administrator to meet both current and future needs.
As the sole Database Administrator on staff you will be expected to work closely with IT project managers, database programmers and multimedia programmers. You will communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security. You should have architect level skills but enjoy the typical day-to-day duties of a true Database Administrator. Overtime this role has great potential to become a lead or manager role.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Establishes the needs of users and monitoring user access and security; Monitors performance and manages parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users; Maps out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline; Considers both back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility for end-users; Refines the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model; Further refines the physical design to meet system storage requirements; Installs and tests new versions of the DBMS; Maintains data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act; Writes database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata); Controls access permissions and privileges; Develops, manages and tests back-up and recovery plans; Ensures that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly;
Bachelors degree or higher. 8-10 years of solid experience in database administration, design and development. Experience with both MySQL and MS SQL database technology highly preferred. Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking/deadlocking issues, connectivity issues, data replication issues etc. Ability to detect and troubleshoot database related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention issues. Experience in performance tuning, query optimization using performance monitoring and troubleshooting tools. Experience with database maintenance activities such as backup/recovery & capacity monitoring/management. Strong knowledge of how indexes work and management of index statistics & fragmentation. Experience with HA/Failover technologies such as Clustering, SAN & Replication. Experience collaborating with development teams on physical database design activities and performance tuning. Experience in managing and making software deployments/changes in real time production environments.
